Olivet Christian Nursery School
Olivet Christian Nursery School is a non-profit preschool founded in 1967 by Olivet Lutheran Church member Virginia Wiese.
OCNS was founded as a parent cooperative program. The premise of a parent cooperative preschool allows you to be directly involved in your child’s early education. A Co-op allows parents and caregivers to supervise and participate in the activities their child engages in at school on a rotating basis with other parents in the class. On the days you are the parent helper, your child is also the “leader” in the classroom (ex: line-leader, calendar helper). You will be asked to assist our trained teachers with projects, bring in snack supplies, and help with the general supervision of the class. However, as the needs of our families have changed, OCNS also offers parents the choice of a traditional (non-co-op) program or to participate in the Co-op. In both programs, parents and teachers will work together to foster a life-long love of learning in a positive, creative environment.
OCNS offers half-day programs to children ages three to five years old regardless of race, color, religion, sex, national origin or disability. Although class size may vary slightly, each will have no more than 18 students with one/two teachers (depending on enrollment) and will maintain an excellent ratio of 10 students:1 teacher. Children must be 3 on or before August 1 of the year they will begin preschool and must be potty trained. We believe that children learn best in a play-based environment, nurtured by experienced and caring teachers. Our staff is comprised of well-trained, loving teachers. We are committed to creating a loving and creative learning environment to develop the social, emotional, intellectual and physical growth of each individual child. The educational needs of the whole child are facilitated through a developmentally appropriate theme-based curriculum, which is designed to exceed the State of Ohio’s Early Learning Content Standards.
OCNS offers a Lunch Bunch Program which is open to students who attend the morning class. Lunch Bunch allows students the opportunity to eat and play together outside of the classroom setting. Sessions are offered Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 11:30-12:30. Separate registration form and fees apply.
